On the air since 1995, Sigma is the only fully independent television station with the largest number of locally produced programs in Cyprus. It broadcasts daily on a 24-hour basis targeting a mainly young, urban audience in the 18 to 45 age group. It employs more than 150 television industry professionals. Now celebrating its 9th birthday Sigma has gradually increased its audience and currently rates first out of six local national broadcasters in total viewership (33% share and 40% in the 18-45 age group). The broadcast split within the prime-time zones is 40% Cyprus Productions, 15% Greek Productions, 25% US and 20% other, mostly Latin American Telenovelas. Sigma licenses content directly from all the major US studios and the largest international distribution companies. Sigma has entered into a strategic cooperation with Star Channel in Greece in September 2002. This cooperation involves the rebroadcast of Star in Cyprus for some hours during the day and exchange of programmes, while the ground is being laid for future co-productions. Sigma also has a re-broadcast agreement with MAD TV, the leading music station in the Greek world. Sigma uses the infrastructure of Dias Publishing House, the largest media group in Cyprus, publishing 1 newspaper, 9 magazines and operating the oldest and most popular radio station on the island. Sigma has a very close business relationship with the number one music radio station, Super FM while it works exclusively with Galaxias productions company, that organises all the major entertainment and cultural events-concerts in Cyprus every year.
